Third bronze medal for Indonesia

23rd August, Kuala Lumpur: Ryan Lalisang together with Doubles bronze medallist of Billy Muhammad Islam and Hardy Rachmadian, picked up a third bronze medal for Indonesia at the 29th SEA Games Tenpin Bowling Championships after finishing third in the Men's Trios event.

The Indonesian trio had a slow start in the first block of three games contested this morning. Lalisang, Islam and Rachmadian managed only 1794 total and was in fifth position. Thailand finished one-two in the first block.

The second Thai trio of Surasak Manuwong, Atchariya Cheng and Sithiphol Kunaksorn topped the block with 1932, just 18 pins ahead of their team-mates and second trio of Kim Bolleby, Annop Arromsaranon and Yannaphon Larpapharat in second.

Singapore's first trio was third with 1889 and Malaysia's second trio was fourth, 34 pins ahead of Indonesia. Lalisang, Islam and Rachmadian relished in the short oil condition in the second block to roll 679 and 687 putting themselves in a good position for a medal.

The trio ended superbly with a big game of 720 to clinch the bronze medal with 3880. The gap was just too big to catch the Thais. Manuwong, Cheng and Kunaksorn fired 712, 728 and 741 to claim victory with 4113.

Bolleby, Arromsaranon and Larpapharat held on to second spot to give Thailand a one-two finish earning the silver medal with 3905. The second Malaysian trio, who was 35 pins ahead of Indonesia before the final game, stumbled to a poor 617 missing the podium with 3822. The other Indonesia trio of Yeri Ramadona, Diwan Rezaldy and Hengki Susanto finished eighth position with 3715.

Meanwhile, Malaysia, who has failed to win a medal in the last two SEA Games in the trios event since winning it in Bangkok in 2007, finally took the gold with 3835. Esther Cheah, two gold medallist, Sin Li Jane and anchorwomen, Shalin Zulkifli edged arch-rival Singapore by 50 pins for a well-deserved victory.

Singapore's New Hui Fen, Shayna Ng and Cherie Tan settled for the silver medal with 3795 despite two superb games in the fourth and fifth games.

Malaysia's second trio of Natasha Roslan, Syaidatul Afifah and Siti Safiyah Amirah gave plenty of joy to the Malaysian contingent, especially the the visiting Y.B. Brig. Gen. Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister of Youth and Sports and the Chairman of the Malaysian Organising Committee (MASOC), who was on site to witness a thrilling battle.

The Malaysian trio rolled 628, 680 and 643 in their second block to clinch the bronze medal with 3785, just ten pins from Singapore. Philippines took fourth position with 3652 while Indonesia's Aldila Indryati, Nadia Pramanik and Tannya Roumimper completed the top five with 3603.

The second trio of Sharon Limansantoso, Novie Phang and Putty Armein ended their trios event in tenth position with 3242. After four events contested, Malaysia topped the medal tally with four gold, four silver and two bronze medals. Singapore trailed in second with a medal haul of 1-2-1 while Thailand is third with a medal haul of 1-1-1. Indonesia has one gold and three silver medals.

Competition will resume tomorrow with the 5-player Team event to be contested over two blocks of three games each with a break at lunch time. At the end of the Team event, the top 16 men and top 16 women in the All-Events standings (30 games) will qualify for the Masters finals.
